Snack food factory celebrates three-year anniversary
It was great to receive some coverage in the local press on Calbee UK celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the opening of our Deeside factory. Here is what the article had to say!
Local snack-manufacturing Company, Calbee UK, are celebrating in style this month as their factory in Deeside reaches the 3rd anniversary of its official opening.
The company, which is based on Deeside Industrial Park, forms part of the Japanese global group, Calbee Inc which previously had no presence in the European market. They therefore took strategic decision to set up their first European subsidiary and, as a result, Calbee UK was born in June 2015!
The company has grown at an incredible rate, now employing over 80 colleagues, 60 of which are employed at their Deeside manufacturing facility – with ambitious plans for further growth in the next 12 months.
Managing Director, Richard Robinson, who has been part of the Calbee UK journey since the very beginning, is delighted at the progress which has been made; “We have come such a long way since it was decided to set up our UK business, and we are extremely proud of our great-tasting, savoury snacks which are proving to be very popular. We have our own brand, Yushoi, and are busy creating and developing new innovative snacks all the time. We are so excited to have amongst our customers such great retailers as Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Aldi, and Lidl.”
Being a really great place to work is also a high priority for everyone at Calbee UK. Head of HR, Mags Kerns, explains; “An important part of the Calbee UK vision is to be one of the UK’s leading employers. We are absolutely passionate about our people – their wellbeing, their happiness, their motivation, engagement and development. For example, we are very proud of our approach to Learning & Development which we see as being fundamental to the core of our business and a key requirement for our future success. Every single colleague is given “a personal invitation to develop their career with Calbee UK” and this is completely sincere. Each colleague is empowered to take ownership of their own career development – they are in the driving seat, and Calbee UK will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their goals and ambitions”
It is also clear that engaging with local community projects and causes is another key focus for Calbee and something which all colleagues have the opportunity to become involved in. Richard explains, “we don’t want to be a company which just makes a financial donation and then “ticks the CSR box”. The approach we take here at Calbee is to develop strong, long-term partnerships with projects local to our sites, where we can offer personal, practical support by offering out the skills and experience of our colleagues. So far, we have engaged with some great organisations such as Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, Pen-y-Fford Primary School, The Real Junk Food Project and Fuel for School.”
Calbee colleagues had great fun marking this important milestone in their short history by having a celebratory lunch for everyone!
