Up until relatively recently, there was little opportunity for UK consumers to return crisp bags and other flexible plastic packaging for recycling. This was due to lack of infrastructure for collection and recycling.
The good news is that since the start of 2021, significant progress has been made within the UK by the UK Plastics Pact and WRAP, of which Calbee is an associate member. This has resulted in a facility for the collection and recycling of different types of plastic together at major UK supermarkets.
There is now a growing list of drop off points, already totalling over 3,000 supermarkets, where plastic bags and other forms of flexible plastic wrap can be taken for recycling.
